Man jailed for damaging SUV in row over ride

Nassau, BAHAMAS- An entitled man who vandalized a sport utility vehicle after he was refused a ride has been jailed for nine months.

Garratt Darling, 26, of Winton Meadows, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing damage at arraignment.

The charge stems from an incident on July 31 when he poured sand into the fuel tank of his grandmother’s 2018 Chevrolet Trax.

Darling, who was unrepresented, said he damaged the vehicle because his uncle had refused to give him a ride in it.

The water company linesman asked for a chance to pay for the repairs.

However, the magistrate decided that a jail term was warranted given Darling’s history of committing similar crimes.
