NASSAU- A man has been jailed after he led police on a high-speed chase in a bus laden with more than 3,000 pounds of ganja.

Theodore Ferguson, 54, was sentenced Monday to three years in prison, plus a $10,000 fine. He’ll spend an extra six months behind bars if he doesn’t pay the money before he completes his sentence.

After getting a tip, police went to Bacardi Road around 3:30am on September 30 to check it out.

The officers saw Ferguson driving bus number 2911 with its headlights off.

When the officers ordered Ferguson to stop, he tried to evade them, resulting in a high-speed chase.

The pursuit came to an end through a track road on Boatswain Hill and the driver fled into bushes.

Officers searched the bus and removed 100 bags of marijuana, weighing 3,053 pounds, with a street value of $3,053,000.

Police arrested Ferguson later that day and he confessed.

Ferguson pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to possess drugs and drug possession with intent to supply at his arraignment before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis.

The magistrate refused a request from the prosecutor to have the bus used to transport the drugs confiscated to the Crown.
