Man cleared of murder charged in deadly shooting

NASSAU- The man accused of the fatal shooting of Geovanny Lafleur was released from prison three years ago after his conviction for a 2012 murder was overturned on appeal.

Glenardo Johnson, 26, is charged with the murder of Lafleur, who was shot in the head by a passenger on his Route 15a bus on October 4.

Authorities believe Johnson blasted Lafleur before he got off the bus on Robinson Road. At the time of the incident, Lafleur was on bail for a murder and three attempted murders that stemmed from a 2015 shooting.

Johnson was denied bail when he made an initial appearance before the chief magistrate. Johnson said he feared for his safety while in custody because Lafleur was the leader of the Fire and Theft gang.

At age 16, Johnson was accused of the June 13, 2012 contract killing of Owen Rose at Washington Street.

Johnson was convicted in 2015 and sentenced to 32 years’ imprisonment.

However, the conviction was quashed in December 2019 after the appellate court ruled his alleged confession inadmissible.
