Juror’s positive COVID-19 test causes murder mistrial

NASSAU-A murder trial came to an unexpected end after a judge declared a mistrial because a juror tested positive for Covid-19.

Justice Renae McKay stopped the trial of brothers Anton and Dwayne Lodimus amid fears that other members of the panel and court staff had been exposed.

The brothers were on trial for the March 19, 2019 murder of Elroy Burrows, 40.

He was shot dead outside a bar on Mackey Street.

The prosecution had already closed its case against them.

The judge was due to rule on no-case submissions made by defence counsel when she aborted the trial.

Due to the backlog in cases it’s unclear when the second trial will be set.

However, the brothers will remain in custody pending the murder retrial unless they’re freed on bail.
