NASSAU-A judge has rejected a request from an accused killer, who’s set to be tried next month, to have his ankle bracelet removed.
Berlin Belfort said he fears that his boss will fire him if he finds out he’s being electronically monitored.
Belfort claims he got a job as a delivery man after he was granted $30,000 bail for the February 17, 2020 shooting death of Kevin Storr at Toote Shop Corner. He’s been on bail since January 2021.
The prosecution objected to the removal of the ankle monitor, saying Belfort should have told his boss he was on bail.
The prosecutor also pointed out that Belfort had produced nothing to prove he was really working as a handyman.
For her part, Justice Camille Darville-Gomez said Belfort had not given her a compelling reason to remove the device so close to his trial.
