FLORIDA- A Bahamian woman has pleaded guilty to conspiring to import cocaine from Grand Bahama into the United States through FedEx.

Pereze Ferguson’s guilty plea came after a judge denied a motion to toss her post-arrest statement.

Her lawyer alleged that Ferguson confessed because police officers allowed her four-year-old son in the interview room.

Ferguson’s sentencing is set for April 13.

On June 17, 2020 FedEx was unable to deliver a package sent from “Kevin Black” to “Dave Black” due to a bad address.

After the failed delivery attempt, Ferguson contacted FedEx to correct the address and the change the consigned information to her name.

FedEx security inspected the package, manifested as donation face masks, and discovered 2.9 kilos of cocaine inside.

Following the discovery, law enforcement agents took over the delivery.

Ferguson, who was in Florida on a visitor’s visa, arranged to collect the package from an undercover agent at the Broward Mall on June 18.

She texted the agent and asked if he was law enforcement.

Ferguson cancelled the pick-up after the undercover agent approached the mall entrance without the package.

A short time later, law enforcement stopped Ferguson’s truck and arrested her.

According to an arrest affidavit, Ferguson claimed Dave Black had hired her to collect the package and take it to a person called Zar for $75.

Ferguson admitted that Black repeatedly called her to inquire about the package.

She said the sense of urgency surrounding the package made her believe that it contained contraband.
