Crypto fugitive SBF gets January bail date

NASSAU- Sam Bankman-Fried, founder and former CEO of FTX, will appear before a judge on January 17, 2023 for bail.

The disgraced cryptocurrency mogul will spend the holidays behind bars after his lawyers did not seek an expedited emergency bail hearing.

Bankman-Fried, who is nicknamed SBF, is fighting extradition to New York, where he is accused of eight counts of fraud, including lying to investors and violating US campaign finance law.

Bankman-Fried was arrested at his penthouse in the exclusive Albany community on Monday after US prosecutors requested his extradition.

He was denied bail on Tuesday after Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt deemed him a flight risk.

Justice Jeanine Weech-Gomez will hear his bail application after the opening of the Legal Year.
