Cops shot unarmed marine three times

Nassau, Bahamas- The unarmed Royal Bahamas Defence Force marine killed by police on January 10 was shot three times, Bahamas Court News has learned.

Leading Seaman Rodney Adderley was shot near his home after he allegedly charged at a policeman and tried to disarm him.

Police went to Dunmore Street around 3:45am in response to a call from Adderley’s neighbor about a suspicious car near his home.

The officers from the mobile unit met Adderley inside his car and ordered him outside at gunpoint, according to well-placed sources.

Though a common practice, police training only allows for officers to draw their weapons if they are in fear of their lives.

Adderley came out of the car. The officers searched him and found nothing illegal.

Police allege that Adderley suddenly charged at the police corporal and attempted to disarm him as he was about to holster his weapon.

The officer reportedly fired five times at Adderley. He was shot three times in the chest and died on the scene.

Authorities have claimed that body camera footage is consistent with the officers’ account of the incident.

National Security Minister Wayne Munroe came under fire after he suggested that the decorated marine had mental issues as he attempted to explain why he charged at the officer.

However, officials have not addressed the officers breaching police policy by approaching Adderley’s car with their guns drawn.

A coroner’s inquest is expected to be held into the matter.

The inquest does not determine criminal or civil liability.
