Comedian cleared of riot case

NASSAU- Comedian Wellington Roberts Jr was yesterday acquitted of charges of inciting a riot and disorderly behavior.

The acquittal came after the prosecution withdrew the charges.

The decision not to proceed followed the court requiring Roberts to present a defense.

The charges stemmed from Roberts’ participation in a 2020 protest by furloughed Atlantis workers seeking severance pay.

Police arrested Roberts after they alleged he used a megaphone and encouraged the protesters to follow him into the House of Assembly while it was in session, so he could throw the mace out of the window.
