Child sex trafficker freed from prison in plea deal

Nassau, Bahamas- A woman who ran a child prostitution ring has been reunited with her newborn after taking a plea deal.

Shamika Rolle, 28, was released from prison after spending nine months and three days on remand.

She was five months pregnant when police arrested her on human trafficking and child porn charges in March.

Rolle gave birth in custody because her family didn’t have the means to post her $18,000 bail.

Social Services took custody of Rolle’s infant daughter before they released the child to relatives.

Rolle, 28, forced the 15-year-old runaway girls into prostitution between February 1 to March 4, 2021 and pocketed the money, the court heard.

As part of her plea deal, Rolle will testify against her former co-defendant Jamalaya Roberts, who is on bail. Failing to do so, will result in an additional 18 months in prison.

Additionally, Rolle was sentenced to probation for three years. She will be jailed for 12 months for violating the terms of her probation.

What’s more, Rolle has to undergo six months of counseling due to her belief that exploiting children was legitimate work. She will spend 12 months behind bars if she doesn’t complete counseling.

Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt will set a new trial date for Rolle’s former codefendant on February 21.
