NASSAU – The mother of murdered toddler D’onya Bella Walker will appear before a judge today for a bail hearing.
Prosecutors allege that Ostonya Walker, 29, contributed to her daughter’s death on November 5 by permitting her to be abused.
Walker’s live-in boyfriend, Darion Smith, 33, is charged with murder and child cruelty.
The four-year-old died from injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.
Walker faces charges of child cruelty and exposing a child to grievous harm.
She’s been on remand at the prison since November 11.
Walker is expected to appear before Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns for an emergency bail application on November 30 at 10am.
Meanwhile, Justice Loren Klein began hearing arguments about who has the right to bury little Bella on November 29. The hearing continues today.
Her maternal grandmother, Monalisa Walker, says the morgue wrongfully released the body to the child’s supposed father, Deon Smith.
Funeral arrangements have been put on hold until the court’s ruling.
Justice Klein is hearing the case in private. However, his decision, which is expected by December 3, will be delivered in open court.
