Bail revoked for fisherman accused of drug smuggling

NASSAU – A judge has revoked the $20,000 bail of an accused drug trafficker who claimed his boat “drifted” into Jamaican waters last month.

Now, Kenny Major will remain in prison pending trial on charges that he smuggled 3,870 pounds of marijuana into the country on October 25, 2018.

Major’s bail conditions required him to remain in The Bahamas and to report to the Quakoo Street Police Station twice monthly on Sundays.

Jamaican police arrested Major, 36, on September 26. The fisherman claimed his boat drifted into Jamaican territory while on a fishing trip.

He pleaded guilty to illegal entry. As a result, Major was deported on October 2.

Prosecutor T’Shura Ambrose asked Justice Gregory Hilton to revoke Major’s bail for violating the conditions of his release.

Defense lawyer Ian Cargill asked the court allow Major to remain free.
