Abaco man denies firearm charge

MARSH HARBOUR, ABACO- An Abaco man faces firearms charges after police allegedly found him with a loaded 9mm pistol.

Police arrested Sherman Kemp at the dock in Hope Town, Abaco on December 5.

According to police, officers were on patrol around 8pm when they saw a group of men getting off a boat. The officers stopped and searched the men because they were behaving suspiciously.

The officers arrested Kemp after they allegedly found a silver and black 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition in the waist of his pants.

Kemp denied charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition at his arraignment before Magistrate Ancella Evans on Monday.

Magistrate Evans adjourned the matter to March 17, 2021 for trial.

Kemp will remain in custody until his trial begins, unless a Supreme Court judge grants him bail.
