NASSAU – A 20-year-old man accused of having an 11-month-long relationship with a minor has been remanded to prison.
Jakyle Barry is accused of starting an intimate relationship with a 12-year-old in August 2021, which continued up to July 2022.
The alleged victim is now 13 and is six months pregnant.
Prosecutors say the girl could not legally consent to sex because she is under 16.
Barry faced 11 counts of unlawful sexual intercourse when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain today.
He did not have to enter pleas to the charges. Barry was remanded in custody until November 23.
He will remain there unless he’s granted bail in the Supreme Court.
