Dwarf defended herself in stabbing, court rules

A woman with dwarfism used justifiable force when she stabbed her cousin during a fight, a magistrate ruled yesterday.

Rohndisha Bain, who is four feet, two inches, was acquitted of causing grievous harm to Christal Robinson on June 4, 2021 after the court found that she acted in self-defense.

According to the evidence, Robinson, who is five feet, seven inches, jump-kicked Bain, causing her to fall to the ground, during an argument through McCullough Corner.

While Bain was on the ground, Robinson rained blows on her head.

That’s when Bain pulled out a comb-knife and stabbed Robinson in the head, hand and arm.

In his decision, Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr found that the prosecution’s witness confirmed that Robinson initiated the attack.

Witnesses for the prosecution tried to restrain Robinson, but she broke away and kicked Bain.

Magistrate Allen said, “The court is of the view that the defendant honestly believes she needed to defend herself as she was under attack or in imminent danger.”

The magistrate found that due to Bain’s height and weight disadvantage, she used reasonable and proportionate force to repel Robinson’s attack.

Bjorn Ferguson and Rhodreka Strachan represented Bain.
