NASSAU- A predator who indecently assaulted a woman after careless cops placed him in her cell has been jailed for 2 ½ years.
Ryan Bodie’s sentence was backdated to October 25, 2021,the date of his remand.
His sentencing had been delayed for a psychiatric evaluation.
Bodie’s victim was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant in Nassau Village on October 21.
She was taken to the East Street South Police Station and detained.
Later that night, officers arrested Bodie for threatening his father and damaging his father’s truck.
Bodie, 32, was also taken to the East Street South Police Station and placed on the same cell as Bodie.
Bodie, who was more attentive than the officers on the guard, immediately recognized that he was sharing a cell with a woman.
He started masturbating and went to sleep.
Then, Bodie woke up and pleasured himself while sitting on the cement bench where the woman was lying down.
The woman ran to the cell door and screamed for officers—but no one came.
As the woman screamed for help, Bodie undressed and threatened to rape the woman and give her AIDS.
Luckily for her, the officers came and prevented Bodie from carrying out his threat.
Bodie, who is mentally ill, said he knew that his actions were wrong.
In sentencing, Magistrate Kendra Kelly said the police were at fault for placing Bodie in the same cell as the woman.
However, she said his actions were inexcusable.
Bodie faced a maximum of three years’ imprisonment. He did not get the maximum due to his guilty plea.
The sexual assault victim has sued the police force and is reportedly seeking $600,000 in damages.
National Security Minister Wayne Munroe said the officer had admitted he was at fault for the incident.
However, it is not known how the officer who placed Bodie in the cell was punished.
