Nassau, Bahamas- A man who caused a mistrial by asking a juror to acquit his cousin of murder has been fined $5,000.
Sharano Davis, 26, of Blue Sky Lane, contacted the woman via Facebook messenger on May 4 and asked her to return a not guilty verdict.
The juror, whose name has been withheld, was sitting on the case of Javano Hall.
He is accused of the May 30, 2019 shooting death of Shaquille Rolle in Culmersville.
Davis messaged the woman, whom he knew from school, and asked her, “What’s up?”
She replied, “Nothing much.”
Then Davis told her that his cousin had selected her as a juror on his case.
Next, he asked, “Please find him not guilty because he’s not a troublesome person.”
The frightened woman blocked Davis and reported the incident to court officials.
Davis apologized to the woman when she testified on November 18.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of obstruction of justice before Magistrate Samuel McKinney at his next court appearance.
His lawyer, Wendawn Miller-Frazer, asked the court for leniency.
Magistrate McKinney fined Davis $5,000 or one year in prison.
He was also sentenced to two years of probation. A breach of probation will result in a nine-month prison sentence.
