NASSAU-Police arrested an American man after he allegedly pulled a gun during an argument.
Officers searched Timothy Hyde’s room at the Sands Hotel in San Salvador based on the complaint.
They found a Glock 45 9mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition in the closet during the search.
Hyde, 66, of Alaska, travelled to the island by boat from Florida.
He was on the island to teach young residents to fly fish.
Hyde told police that he had forgotten to declare the weapon and ammunition when he arrived in the country on November 17.
He pleaded guilty to importing the gun and ammunition in addition to possessing them.
Hyde was sentenced to three months in prison and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
By paying the fine, Hyde would avoid serving an extra 12 months behind bars.
Nevertheless, Hyde still faces trial for allegedly threatening to kill Jermaine Johnson and pulling a gun on him.
