NASSAU- A pregnant woman gave her allegedly abusive boyfriend a second chance after she dropped charges against him.
Police arrested and charged Cordero Saunders, 31, with assault with a deadly weapon after the woman claimed he’d pulled a gun on her.
But after his arrest, the woman had a change of heart.
Police in Great Harbour Cay, Berry Islands refused to allow the woman to drop the case.
Undeterred, she caught a flight to New Providence so she could make the withdrawal.
Under oath, the woman told Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt that she did not want to proceed with the matter because loved him and was carrying his child.
The Magistrate told Saunders that his alleged actions showed “he was less than a man”.
Saunders apologized to the woman, saying, “You know I love you and I promise it won’t happen again.”
Saunders’ attorney Ian Cargill also chastised him for his actions, saying it “should never have happened”.
Cargill added, “That she’s pregnant, makes it even worse.”
Although the prosecutor withdrew the case at the woman’s request, Saunders’ legal woes aren’t over.
Since police didn’t find the handgun, Saunders faced no other charge in relation to the case.
He’s currently on bail pending a retrial on charges of kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Those charges stem from the 2013 murders of Immigration Officer Shane Gardiner and his girlfriend Tishka Braynen in Andros.
