NASSAU-A man who had sex with a 15-year-old who he thought was an adult has been jailed for two years.
Keimon Newbold, 27, of Periwinkle Alley, pleaded guilty to counts of unlawful sexual intercourse yesterday.
The court heard that Newbold met the child in February 2021 at a store on Parkgate Road, where they exchanged numbers.
A few weeks after they first met, Newbold took the girl to his house and they had consensual sex. However, they girl could not legally consent because she was too young. The age of consent for heterosexual relationships is 16.
Police found the girl at Newbold’s home off Kemp Road on April 19, 2021 after their second coupling. The police officers went to the home after receiving a tip.
When they asked the girl why she was there, she told the officers that Newbold was her boyfriend.
Police arrested Newbold and contacted the child’s parent.
During questioning by police, Newbold admitted to having sex with the minor. However, he said he didn’t know she was underage.
