Pastor granted $1,000 bail

NASSAU- Controversial pastor Julian Johnson has been granted $1,000 bail in his intentional libel case.

Johnson, the pastor of Grace International Ministries, spent the night at prison pending a bail hearing.

Johnson, 50, was re-arraigned when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes this morning.

Prosecutors allege that Johnson with intent to defame accused Police Commissioner Paul Rolle of sexually assaulting female police officers.

He has denied the charge and could face a maximum of two years’ imprisonment, if convicted.

The prosecutor, who had asked for bail to be deferred yesterday, said she was satisfied that Johnson was a suitable candidate for bail.

Johnson returns to court on July 28 for trial.
