NASSAU-Police have charged an Abaco man with attempted murder after they say he shot two police officers who came to his home to investigate a complaint.
Prosecutors allege that Marty Sawyer, 54, of Little Orchard, Marsh Harbour, opened fire on Chief Superintendent Wendell Smith and Corporal 3688 Andre Linden with a shotgun on November 24. Smith is the highest ranking officer on the island.
The officers were airlifted to Nassau for further medical care, and have since been released.
Sawyer was shot in the neck during the incident and received serious injury to his jugular vein.
He was released from hospital last Friday.
Sawyer was not required to enter pleas to the attempted murder charges when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney today.
He was denied bail and returns to court on February 26, 2021.
