Charges dropped against lockdown protesters

Nassau -Police have withdrawn charges against 39 protesters in and out-of-court settlement.

The protesters were supposed to be arraigned on Thursday, August 27 for unlawful assembly.

But Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle dropped the charges after negotiations with Wayne Munroe, QC.

Under the deal, the protesters won’t take civil action against the police.

Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis’ announcement on August 17 of an immediate seven-day lockdown  sparked the protest the following day.

He reversed his decision soon after, saying that residents needed an opportunity to prepare for a potential storm:
