NASSAU-A budget hotel fell victim to room theft.
A manager at Orchard Gardens Hotel off Village Road made a complaint to police after two blankets, a mirror, microwave and a mini fridge went missing from a room last month.
Police recovered the missing items, valued at $468.97, at the home of Shardone Russell, 20 and Troynique Stubbs, 20.
The women had stayed at the hotel before the items went missing.
They admitted to receiving the stolen items at their arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.
The court heard that the women confessed to bringing the stolen items into their home when questioned by investigators. However, they denied stealing the items themselves.
In mitigation, attorney Bjorn Ferguson said that both women, who are active in their church, “made a mistake by allowing the items on their premises.”
He asked the court to show leniency given their youth, early admission of guilty and previously clean records.
After chastising the women for their actions, Magistrate McKinney placed them each on probation for 12 months.
A probation breach will result in a three-month prison sentence.
Meanwhile, the third defendant Derek Nottage, 34, will go to trial on accusations of stealing and receiving on August 5.
The court released him on $500 bail.
