Accused cocaine smuggler Pereze Perissa Ferguson is under house arrest as a condition of her $100,000 bail.
Ferguson, 26, of Grand Bahama, can only leave home to seek medical care for herself and son, court hearings, lawyer visits and religious services.
Ferguson’s brother Kenneth Whymms posted bail and she’ll be staying with him in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Earlier this month, police arrested Ferguson after she tried to collect a FedEx package that contained 2.9 kilos of cocaine. The package originated in The Bahamas.
The initial scheduled delivery to “Dave Black” failed on June 16 because the package had the wrong address.
After the failed the delivery attempt, Ferguson allegedly contacted FedEx multiple times to correct the address.
She eventually arranged to have the package delivered to her home in her name, prosecutors allege.
Due to the suspicious activity, FedEX officials alerted law enforcement, who found the cocaine. The shipper had claimed the package contained face masks.
Following the discovery, law enforcement agents took over the delivery.
Ferguson, who was in Florida on a visitor’s visa, arranged to collect the package at the Broward Mall on June 18.
But Ferguson cancelled the pick-up after the undercover agent approached the mall entrance without the package.
A short time later, law enforcement stopped Ferguson’s truck and arrested her.
According to an arrest affidavit, Ferguson claimed she had been hired to collect the package and take it to a person called Zar for $75.
Her arraignment initially set for July 6 will take place on September 30.
