NASSAU- Donna Vasyli, the prime suspect in her husband’s murder, hopes her attorneys can convince an appellate court to end her case for good.
The Court of Appeal will on July 20 consider whether she should face a second trial for the murder of orthotics tycoon Phillip Vasyli.
Police arrested Donna, his wife of 34 years, after he was found stabbed to death in their luxury home in Old Fort Bay on March 24,2015.
In November 2015, Donna was convicted of the killing of her 59-year-old husband, and sentenced to 20 years jail.
However, appeal judges overturned her conviction and ordered a retrial in 2017.
A judge freed Donna on $250,000 bail soon after.
Then, in January 2020 Donna made a final appeal to the Privy Council to block the retrial.
But in March, the Privy Council directed the Court of Appeal to reconsider its earlier decision for a retrial.
The Privy Council removed the judgment from its site since a retrial is possible.
