2-year-old in critical condition after Eleuthera shooting

DeNyla Roberts, two, is fighting for her life in hospital

HATCHET BAY-Police have arrested two suspects in a shooting that left a two-year-old girl fighting for her life in hospital.

The incident happened around 10pm Saturday at Baby Johnson Lane in Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera.

According to police, DaNyla Roberts was in her grandmother’s lap when a car pulled up.

Three men got out of the car and approached the grandmother on her porch. One of the men shot at the woman after he made a comment. The bullet hit the child.

Little DaNyla was airlifted to New Providence for treatment to a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

She remains in critical condition. Investigations continue.


Meanwhile, in New Providence police are questioning a woman about a shooting.

Police received an alert about gunfire in the area of Comfort and Hay Streets around 6pm.

Officers on mobile patrol responded to the scene. They retrieved fired cartridges and learned that a Silver Nissan Cube had been damaged by gunfire. However, the driver left the scene before police arrived.

Acting on information, police went to Rupert Dean Lane where they found the damaged car. The officers later arrested the car’s driver for questioning.
