NASSAU – Prosecutors on Wednesday dropped criminal charges against a policeman who was about to go on trial for the murder of his wife and the attempted murder of their son.
Jarrette Stubbs was accused of stabbing his wife, Alfreda, and their 13-year-old son during a domestic dispute at their home in Sir Lynden Pindling Estates on November 13, 2013.
Mrs Stubbs, a 39-year-old pharmacist, died in hospital two days after the incident.
Stubbs, who up to that point had been a policeman, was charged with murder and attempted murder on November 21, 2013 and remanded to prison.
He was granted bail after spending two years in custody awaiting trial.
Proceedings against Stubbs came to an end when prosecutors presented a nolle prosequi to Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns.
A nolle leaves the door open to re-instating the charges.
However, this is unlikely as Stubbs’ son, the key witness in the case, is reportedly unwilling to testify.
