NASSAU-Desperate drug smugglers rammed a police boat during a high speed chase in Exuma this morning.
Still, the Drug Enforcement Unit apprehended the four smugglers and seized 2,274 pounds of marijuana valued at $3.4 million.
The captain of the go-fast smuggling boat stopped his vessel after police shot a member of his crew.
The shooting was in response to the collision that injured a DEU officer. The officers sustained injuries to the neck and legs after he was thrown from the boat.
Both injured men are recovering in hospital.
The spectacular chase involving the police boat and an OPBAT helicopter started in Ragged Island and ended in Exuma.
The 42-year-old captain of Yamacraw Beach was recently released from prison for drug smuggling.
