NASSAU-A Jamaican teenager accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor has been denied bail.
Prosecutors say Tralavae Andrews, 19, had an illegal sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl in May. The age of consent is 16.
Andrews did not have to enter a plea to unlawful sexual intercourse charge at his initial court appearance.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes remanded Andrews to prison because he lacks jurisdiction to consider bail for the offence. However, he advised Forbes his right to seek bail in the Supreme Court.
Prosecutors will send the case to the Supreme Court on November 2 with the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment.
