Murder accused gets bail 21 days after his remand

NASSAU- A murder accused was on Monday granted bail, just three weeks after his remand to prison.

Senior Justice Bernard Turner on March 7 set bail at $20,000 for Lashon Davis after finding that he was not a flight risk.

Davis, whose street name is Elto, is one of two men charged with the fatal shooting of Carlin Smith on January 29, 2022 at Comfort and Hay Streets.

Smith was in the car with a woman when a gunman fired into the vehicle, killing him.

After learning that police wanted to quiz him about the murder, Davis’ lawyer Bjorn Ferguson turned him into the Criminal Investigation Department on February 8.

Davis remained in police custody until February 14 when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney, who remanded him to prison.

Justice Turner agreed with Ferguson’s submission that this demonstrated that Davis would show up for his trial.

Additionally, the judge said that there was no evidence that Davis would interfere with the prosecution’s witnesses.

Davis has to wear an ankle bracelet and report to the Quakoo Street Police Station twice weekly as a condition of bail.
