NASSAU-A graphic design student who gave a policeman a fake driver’s license during a traffic stop has been sentenced to two years of probation.
Takiyah Armbrister, 21, of Fox Hill, pleaded guilty to possession of a forged document and uttering a forged document at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.
Armbrister will have to pay a $1,500 fine to avoid spending three months in prison if he breaches the terms of his probation.
On March 22 Sergeant 3506 Arnold Nesbitt pulled over Armbrister for driving along University Boulevard without his seatbelt fastened.
Armbrister gave the officer the bogus license and a subsequent name check revealed that he had two outstanding traffic warrants.
As a result, Armbrister was taken to the Grove Police Station.
Further investigations revealed that Armbrister’s driver’s license was a forgery.
Officials from the Road Traffic Department confirmed that Armbrister had never been issued a driver’s license.
However, he was issued a learner’s permit, which has since expired.
Armbrister claimed that he got the fake driver’s license from someone he knew.
